Why AltoFocus exists
It started as an OmniFocus replacement for one person. Now it's an app for anyone who wants their tasks in order and to know why they're doing them.
The story
I'm Petr Štichauer. I've practised David Allen's GTD for years, most of them in OmniFocus. It's a great tool — sequential projects, defer dates, perspectives. But it only lives on Apple devices, can't really be shared, and knows nothing about why I do what I do.
In GTD, Allen describes horizons of focus: from today's actions through projects, areas and goals up to vision and purpose. On paper it makes sense. In every app I tried, though, it wasn't connected — goals lived in one document, tasks in another app, and there was no thread between them.
So I started building AltoFocus for myself: with OmniFocus's discipline, with horizons as a real part of the app, and with AI that helps but never does anything risky without you. I borrowed the altitude metaphor from Allen and added one more level on top — legacy, what you leave behind.
AltoFocus is now in open beta. I use it every day and build it with feedback from the people using it alongside me. If something's missing, write to me.

What we stick to
- Calm before features
- Each screen does one thing. What you don't need right now appears only when you ask.
- Privacy above the line
- Areas, goals, vision and values are never shared. Only projects and tasks can be.
- The AI asks first
- The AI partner can do almost anything, but deletes or cancels nothing without your confirmation.
- No ads, no selling data
- You pay with a subscription, not your attention. We use no analytics or advertising cookies.
- Data in Europe
- The database runs in the EU (Ireland). Every processor is named in the privacy policy.
